A senior Iranian source said that negotiations brokered by Washington could open a new era of stability in the Middle East, while warning of grave consequences in the event of a military escalation.
According to him, the recent progress achieved in mediated talks between the United States and Iran could mark a "turning point" in efforts to end the conflict between the two countries and bring about a "new era of stability and prosperity" in the Middle East.
The official said that significant progress has been made in recent days towards reaching a memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran.
"A lot of progress has been made, especially in recent days. We hope that the Trump administration will seize this opportunity for a lasting and long-term solution," the Iranian source said.
On the other hand, US President Donald Trump declared on Saturday that a broader agreement with Iran has been "extensively negotiated," while adding that some details still remain to be finalized with Tehran and other international actors.
The Iranian official also praised the role of Middle Eastern countries in mediating dialogue between the two sides, emphasizing that the region is increasingly gaining political and strategic independence.
"We are grateful to our friends and partners in the region for their sincere efforts. This shows that the Middle East is changing and becoming a strong and independent bloc," he said.
Regarding the future of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most important energy corridors in the world, the Iranian source stated that the sea route remains open, but stressed that coordination with Iranian authorities is needed to ensure navigation safety.
However, Tehran warned that any new military action by the US could lead to an uncontrollable escalation in the region and beyond.
"Our armed forces are ready to defend the interests and dignity of our nation to the last bullet and soldier," the source stated.
