A Russian Su-27 fighter jet took off to intercept a US Global Hawk unmanned reconnaissance drone approaching Russia's border over the Black Sea.
This was reported by the Interfax agency on Sunday, citing the Ministry of Defense in Moscow.
The US UAV moved away as the Russian fighter approached, the same source added.
According to the TASS agency, the control of the Russian airspace in the Black Sea detected an air target approaching the state border of the Russian Federation.
To prevent the violation of state borders, a Sukhoi fighter jet (Su-27) was involved from the air defense forces on duty.
" The crew of the Russian fighter jet identified the aerial target as a US Air Force RQ-4B Global Hawk reconnaissance UAV. As the Russian fighter approached, the foreign reconnaissance UAV made a deviation from the state border of the Russian Federation. The plane returned safely to its home airport, it was not allowed to cross the state borders of the Russian Federation ," the Russian Ministry of Defense said.
The flight of the Russian warplane was carried out strictly in accordance with international rules on the use of airspace over neutral waters in accordance with security measures, the Ministry of Defense said, according to Moscow.
