Russia's Defense Ministry said it scrambled two fighter jets after British warplanes approached the Russian border over the Black Sea.
"When the Russian warplanes approached, the foreign warplanes turned and distanced themselves from the border with Russia," the ministry said in a statement.
According to the Russian ministry, two British Tayphoon aircraft were involved in this event, which were accompanied by an RC-135 reconnaissance aircraft.
"The Russian planes returned to their air base. There was no violation of the Russian border," the ministry said.
Incidents involving Russian and Western aircraft have increased in recent months over the Black and Baltic Seas, as Moscow continues its war in Ukraine.
In May, Moscow said it intercepted four US strategic bombers over the Baltic Sea in two separate incidents within a week.
Russia also took to the air to intercept French, German and Polish aircraft.
In April, a US military MQ-9 drone crashed in the Black Sea after a confrontation.
