The first alarm was given by the search and rescue center in Rome at the request of the Libyan coast guard.
The Ocean Viking of SOS Mediterranee had managed to save 26 migrants by piling them on board a small boat.
The ship was then ordered to turn its course towards Italy, bound for the port of Livorno.
The survivors returned to Libya. In the port of Tripoli they stated that initially there were 86 people on the raft.
