The Mexican Navy announced yesterday that it has seized 8.3 tons of drugs in the Pacific, a record amount seized in Mexico in an operation at sea.
The seized value amounts to 2.099 billion pesos (134.5 million euros), the Navy said in a statement, without specifying the type of drug.
" This is the largest amount of drugs that has been captured during a maritime operation, there is no precedent of this magnitude before ," the statement said.

The seizure was made southwest of the town of Lazaro Cardenas, in the state of Michoacán, on Mexico's west coast.
During the operation, the Navy arrested six boats, five with outboard motors and a semi-submersible about 15 meters long, as well as 23 people.
The largest drug seizure in Mexican history, 23 tons of Colombian cocaine, was made in November 2007.
For decades, Mexico has been a hub for drug smuggling into North America, an activity that many cartels are struggling to control.
The state of Michoacan, on whose shores the seizure took place, is the scene of ongoing conflicts between criminal gangs, among them the powerful Jalisco New Generation cartel.
