US President Donald Trump has been harsh on Putin. He has stated that "within two weeks we will know whether Putin is kidding us or not."
Trump vowed to change course if he realizes that Russian President Vladimir Putin is not taking the peace agreement in Ukraine seriously.
He expressed disappointment with Moscow's attacks. Trump did not specify what measures he would take to punish Russia, but stressed that his new tough language towards Moscow would speak for itself.
Trump expressed concern that potential new sanctions on Russia could jeopardize a deal. The US president said he still believes Russia "seems to want to do something about peace," but expressed uncertainty about whether the country will end the war.
"If I think I'm close to a deal, I don't want to break it. And believe me, I'm a lot tougher than the people you're talking about. I can't tell you, but I'll let you know in about two weeks. We'll find out if he's taking advantage of us or not, and if he is, we'll react a little differently," Trump told reporters in Washington.
