Moscow has called the new US sanctions counterproductive. Putin says that if the Trump administration follows the example of previous governments, it will be a failure.
On the other hand, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky welcomed US sanctions against Russia's two largest oil companies.
"We will see if the sanctions will have an effect... this is a good message from the US ," he said today.
A few minutes after his speech, the Ukrainian president, through his post on "X", thanked his counterpart Trump for the decision made.
"The new US sanctions against Russian oil giants are a clear message that prolonging the war and spreading terror have costs. And this is a right and absolutely necessary step. Pressure on Russia will be effective in achieving peace, and sanctions are one of its main elements."
"I thank Donald Trump and the entire American team for this decisive and targeted decision. It is a strong and much-needed message that aggression will not remain unanswered. A reliable and lasting peace has no other alternative ," Zelensky wrote in his post.
