Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky have had a phone conversation, according to Axios, which cited a source familiar with the situation.
This comes after Trump's chief negotiator and envoy, Steve Witkoff, met with Vladimir Putin in Moscow today, a meeting that lasted nearly three hours.
Vladimir Putin's 3-hour conversation with US special envoy Steve Wittkoff was "useful and constructive", Kremlin foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov said.
The Putin-Witkoff meeting took place two days before a deadline set by Donald Trump for Moscow to stop the war in Ukraine or face new sanctions.
Ushakov told the Zvezda newspaper that the two sides discussed the war in Ukraine and the potential for improving relations between the US and Russia.
Moscow received several "signals" from Trump and sent several messages in response to the war in Ukraine.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said he will make announcements later today whether potential sanctions against Russia will be implemented this week.
The US Secretary of State said he spoke with special envoy Steve Witkoff, who is returning from a trip to Russia, and that there will be more discussions throughout the day.
He told reporters that he hopes some announcements will be made soon: "Maybe positive, maybe not."
The Kremlin said Witkoff had "useful and constructive" talks with Vladimir Putin today, two days before a deadline set by Donald Trump for Russia to agree to peace in Ukraine or face new sanctions.
