A well-known writer and journalist in the US, but with Israeli citizenship, named Sim Kern, has often shared videos on social networks where she talks about the conflict in Gaza and encourages people to read Palestinian authors.
It seems strange that a Jewish author would ask for such a thing, but Sim comes out and speaks openly about what she thinks is happening in Palestine, pointing out that there is a terrible rhetoric in the Western media that differentiates people.
Her latest video on the current situation in the Gaza Strip has gone viral and it is enough to see the comments to understand that many of her followers, mostly Americans, support her. All her statements teach her that there are two realities in Gaza, but she chooses to talk about only one.
"If at this moment you are making a statement about how much the hostages of Israel suffer, but you do not say that the people, the civilians, the children of Gaza suffer. If you are condemning Hamas, but you are not doing the same for the government of Israel and the absolute support of the United States for it, as the government of Israel is bombing the citizens in Gaza, blocking their food, cutting off their electricity, a city where children make up 50% of the population and where because of violated rights people suffer miserably from apartheid. In the world's largest prison, they are experiencing constant violence from the Israeli army. You see this difference that is made in people in the daily rhetoric of the media, where the Israelis who are killed are described differently and the Palestinians who die are completely different, leaving in the shade the aggressions of the Israeli army which they describe as clashes between the parties and leaving yes also in the shadows the inhumane acts done to the Palestinians, which are so important to the supremacist project in Palestine. My suggestion has always been, even before this battle, that people read any book, but by a Palestinian author. As a Jew and author of books, I am stating this because I want people to be encouraged to read Palestinian literature. So before you say what's going on in Israel and Palestine right now, ask yourself: Have you asked to hear more from the Palestinians themselves, have you ever read a book by a Palestinian author?!”, she says in her video.
The 37-year-old is the author of many best-selling books in the USA, such as "Depart, Depart!", "The Free's people village", "Real Sugar is Hard to find", etc.
