The Israeli army said that ground troops have launched an operation inside the Gaza Strip.
In a statement, the army said troops entered Gaza to fight militants, destroy weapons and find evidence related to hostages being held by the Palestinian militant group Hamas.
This announcement did not seem to signal the launch of the expected ground invasion of Gaza.
Israel has been massing troops along the border with the Gaza Strip since the October 7 attack by Hamas militants.
The announcement of the raid comes on the day Israeli authorities warned more than 1.1 million Gazans to leave for the south of the country.
Since Hamas' coordinated air, land and sea attacks on Israel on October 7, the latter has bombarded Gaza and besieged the territory. Israeli authorities have said they will defeat Hamas.
The militant group has ruled Gaza since 2007 and, following Israel's warning to evacuate, has called on Palestinians in the Gaza Strip to stay in their homes.
As a result of the violence, over 1,300 people have been killed in Israel and over 1,500 in Gaza. Also, dozens of hostages were taken by Hamas militants.
