Italian firefighters installed the chimney from which smoke will emerge, after the cardinals' votes, in the Sistine Chapel on the morning of May 2, with the start of the Conclave to elect a new Pope as a backdrop.
According to tradition, the smoke will be black whenever a new pope is not elected and white when the 133 cardinals who will participate in the Conclave manage to choose Francis' successor.
He will be the new 267th Holy Father of the Roman Catholic Church.
As of today, several "technical tests" have begun, with the chemicals that give the smoke its dark and white color.
Meanwhile, at the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, the arrival of believers continues, who want to worship the tomb of Francis.
Part of the Italian press reported a technical problem, which has to do with the way the late pope's name is engraved, in Latin, on the marble of the tomb.
In fact, there is a problem with the symmetry of the inscription. Franciscus' "A" is further away from the letter that precedes and follows it, compared to all the other characters.
It is now expected to be determined whether any corrective intervention should be made, or whether it will remain as is.
According to the newspaper Avvenire, of the Catholic Bishops of Italy, this particular imperfection should not be changed, because "this "a" coincides with the initial letter of the word love in Italian (Amore) and could be another gift from Pope Francis."
