
Iran's Cabinet has appointed Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani as Foreign Minister, after the helicopter crash that killed President Ebrahim Raisi.
The decision comes after a meeting of the three branches of Iran's government: executive, legislative and judicial.
While the first vice president Mohammad Mokhber is expected to take office as president. According to Iran's constitution, the first vice president takes office for an interim period of 50 days if a president dies in office.
Mokhber said that they would follow the path of President Raisi in "fulfilling certain duties".
Khamenei also declared five days of mourning in Iran following the deaths of the president, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and 7 others on board.
