At least 16 people were killed after a wave of Israeli airstrikes overnight in southern Lebanon, according to Lebanon's National News Agency (NNA).
The attacks were mainly concentrated in residential areas of the Nabatieh district, causing significant casualties and damage. Local authorities reported that the shelling continued for several hours, while the situation on the ground remains tense.
The Israeli military said the operation was carried out in response to what it said were repeated ceasefire violations by Hezbollah, the Iran-backed militant group. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it had struck targets linked to Hezbollah militants and infrastructure in southern Lebanon.
The new escalation of the conflict comes just two days after the US and Iran signed an agreement aimed at ending fighting between Israel and Hezbollah on Lebanese territory.
Meanwhile, political tensions have also increased between Washington and some Israeli officials. US Vice President JD Vance publicly criticized members of the Israeli government who have opposed President Donald Trump over the Iran deal.
"If I were part of the Israeli cabinet, I probably wouldn't attack the only powerful ally I have left in the world," Vance declared.
