At least 254 people have been killed by Israeli strikes across Lebanon today, according to the country's civil defense authorities, in one of the worst episodes of the recent escalation.
The highest death toll was recorded in the capital Beirut, where 91 people were killed in the strikes. The Israeli army operation included dozens of targets in different areas of the country, including southern Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley in the east.
The Israeli military said it had launched its largest coordinated offensive since the resumption of the conflict with Hezbollah, stressing that the two-week ceasefire does not apply to Lebanese territory.
According to reports from the ground, over 100 targets were hit in just 10 minutes, indicating the scale and intensity of the operation. Residents reported that some of the strikes occurred without the usual warnings, increasing the risk to the civilian population.
The developments have deepened uncertainty over the implementation of the ceasefire. While the White House has stated that the agreement does not include Lebanon, Iran and Pakistan have disputed this interpretation, insisting that it should apply to the entire region.
This discrepancy in positions, combined with developments on the ground, is putting the ceasefire under severe pressure and increasing the risk of a wider escalation, with Lebanon remaining the key point where the sustainability of the agreement is being tested.
