The Secretary of State, Antony Blinken is visiting China, this visit after many postponements. He met with China's top diplomat, Wang Yi, while it is not known if he will meet President Xi Jinping.
This is the first visit of a senior American diplomat in the last 5 years.
China's top diplomat said the main cause of the gap in China-US relations is America's 'misperception' of his country.
Wang Yi told Blinken that there is "no room for compromise" on Taiwan, according to a statement from China's Foreign Ministry after the meeting.
He also demanded that the US lift unilateral sanctions against China, stop 'suppressing' China's scientific and technological developments and not interfere in China's internal affairs.
"A choice must be made between dialogue or confrontation, cooperation or conflict," he said.
