The top suspected killer of the Sinaloa cartel has been extradited to the US from Mexico.
Authorities allege that Nestor Isidro Perez Salas, aka El Nini, was the "top hitman" working for the sons of drug kingpin Joaquin Guzman, better known as El Chapo.
US officials had offered a $3 million reward for information leading to his capture.
US Attorney General Merrick Garland alleges that El Nini is responsible for the murder, torture and kidnapping of drug cartel rivals and witnesses.
El Nini's arrest is part of an effort by US and Mexican authorities to stem the flow of fentanyl across the Mexico-US border.
According to the US Drug Enforcement Administration, three of El Chapo's sons, Ovidio Guzman Lopez and his brothers Ivan Archivaldo and Jesus Alfredo Guzman Salazar, are the leaders of a trafficking empire responsible for smuggling millions of doses of fentanyl into the US.
López, whose nickname is "Rat," was extradited to the U.S. in September for drug trafficking and money laundering, to which he pleaded not guilty. Two of the other brothers are wanted.
