Vulin returns to Moscow, meets with Russia's spy chief

The Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of Serbia, Aleksandar Vulin, met on Wednesday with the Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Russia, Sergey Naryshkin. Vulin and Naryshkin discussed improving and strengthening cooperation between the security structures of Serbia and Russia, the Government said. of Serbia, on October 16.

According to the Government communiqué, Naryshkin said that "the efforts of Deputy Prime Minister Vulin, who, performing the functions of the Minister of Defense, Internal Affairs and the director of the Security and Information Agency (BIA), has influenced the development of good relations between the Serbian and Russian services."

Vulin, on the other hand, thanked the Russian spy chief for "the reliable and always safe partnership, as well as the support to Serbia".

In addition to meeting with Naryshkin, Vulin is expected to meet with other Russian officials, and will attend a reception at the Serbian Embassy on the 80th anniversary of Belgrade's liberation from German occupation during World War II.

Vulin is considered one of the Kremlin's biggest supporters in the Serbian leadership.

He also met with the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, when he declared that Serbia is not only a strategic partner, but also an ally of Russia.

In January of this year, Vulin was honored by the President of Russia and the Federal Security Service of Russia.

Vulin is on the US State Department's blacklist for his ties to Russia and involvement in corruption during his time at the head of the BIA.

He resigned from this position in November 2023, after constant pressure from the West.

He was appointed vice president of the Government of Serbia at the beginning of May.

Serbia and Russia traditionally cultivate close relations.

Serbia is one of the rare countries in Europe that refuses to join the international sanctions against the Kremlin after the Russian invasion of Ukraine./  REL
