The rapporteur for Kosovo in the European Parliament, Viola von Cramon, has said that the elections in Serbia were monitored irregularly before and during the voting day, adding that an international investigation is needed.
In a post on Twitter, she said that she was a member of the delegation for observing the election process in Serbia.
Von Cramon wrote that this process took place in unequal conditions between the party that was in power and the opposition, stating that there was misuse of administrative resources, vote buying and violation of vote secrecy.
"I was a member of the European Parliament's Election Observation Delegation in Serbia where, together with my colleagues, they observed the early national parliamentary elections. The Serbian elections were held in unequal conditions and were conducted with frequent irregularities on the election day and before it, such as the misuse of administrative resources, vote buying and violation of the secrecy of the vote," he said. She said that there were witnesses who brought voters from Republika Srpska ethnicity from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“We saw cases of organized behavior of voters from Republika Srpska and intimidation of voters. We absolutely expected higher democratic standards from an EU candidate country negotiating EU membership. International oversight and a full investigation are needed. The European Parliament is ready to mediate between the ruling party and the opposition in Belgrade to ensure peaceful and democratic dialogue and reduce tensions," she added.
