Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has backed Donald Trump ahead of November's US presidential election, saying his return to the White House could be "what the world needs".
Johnson argued that if Trump supports Ukraine in its fight against Russia, his leadership "could be a great victory for the world."
However, Trump has repeatedly questioned continued US support for Kiev if re-elected, while speaking frequently about his relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Trump, who has also been an outspoken critic of NATO, has claimed he can end Russia's war in Ukraine within 24 hours.
"I do not believe that Trump will lose Ukraine. On the contrary, having concluded that there is no deal with Putin, I think there is a good chance that he will finish what he started, giving them what they need to win. If this is so, then there is a chance that under Trump's leadership, the West will become stronger and the world will be more stable ," said Johnson.
We recall that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky invited Trump, the main Republican candidate for the nomination, to visit Kiev.
"Yes, please, Donald Trump, I invite you to come to Ukraine. If you can stop the war for 24 hours, I think it is enough to come to Kiev" , said Zelensky in an interview for Channel 4 News.
Johnson argued that what the world needs now is an American leader whose willingness to use force and unpredictability will become a significant deterrent to the West's enemies.
He also said Trump was interested in a proper free trade deal with Britain, after hopes of a full trade deal faded last year.
