SPAK has identified 16 criminal groups in the country, but only 10 have been targeted.
After a period of calm, criminal groups have been reactivated in recent days. Two attacks in one day shook the country on Thursday. In Lezha, an elderly man was killed, while in Tirana we have 4 injured, where two children are fighting for their lives.
The Special Prosecution Office has cracked down on several criminal groups in the country, but their leaders are on the run. Which means that the activity is probably continuing. But it seems that there are other groups that SPAK has not yet managed to reach.
In the annual report of the year we left behind, for the first time SPAK gave us a concrete figure on the criminal groups operating in our country. According to verifications and data from prosecutors, there are a total of 16 groups, spread from the South to the North. However, SPAK itself has only hit 10 of them, while we have 6 groups that have not yet been "harassed".
SPAK has struck in Tirana, Elbasan, Shkodër, Lezhë or Kukës, but there have been no actions in other cities. Here we can mention Vlora, Fier, etc. So there are 6 other groups in the country that continue their activity and SPAK is expected to take action in the coming weeks. A few days ago we saw that BKH was conducting monitoring in Fier and it is said that a strong criminal group is in focus.
The Special Prosecution Office itself reports that the criminal groups have taken on highly organized forms, while noting that they have gone so far as to include people from the academic world as part of their circle.
" According to SPAK's internal assessment, around 16 criminal groups with high social risk have been identified, which are based on family and friendly ties and are also involved in international criminal markets, mainly in cocaine trafficking. These groups are active in the regions of Tirana, Durrës, Shkodra, Kukës, Lezha, Elbasan and Vlora. SPAK has managed to successfully prosecute 10 of these criminal groups with criminal activities in several cities of the country such as Tirana (3); Durrës (2); Elbasan (2); Shkodra (1), Lezha (1) and Kukës (1). Among the distinguishing features of these criminal groups is their hierarchical structure, the division of roles, the inclusion in their membership of representatives of the judiciary, prosecution, state police, media and the academic world ", SPAK emphasizes in the annual report.
According to the prosecution, some other distinctive features of these groups are the use of encrypted communications such as SKY ECC and money laundering through cryptocurrencies.
SPAK itself admits in the report that crime has strong connections, connections that go all the way to the political level. In the actions we have seen so far, there have been no politicians brought up in conversations. SPAK has taken care to share the files and it is said that in Shkodra, Elbasan, etc., the names of MPs appear. Similarly, important names appear in SKyEcc communications.
