The unexpected return of the former Minister of Education to the local race in Kosovo revives suspicions of a major political operation between Tirana and Pristina...
Besa Shahini, the former Minister of Education in Edi Rama's government, has unexpectedly announced her candidacy for mayor of Pristina.
Edi Rama took Besa Shahini and a group of other Kosovo politicians, part of Vetëvendosje, into his government, as a scheme to play a game below the belt against Albin Kurti.
At a time when the Prime Minister of Kosovo was suffering from a serious illness, he temporarily left the leadership of the movement in the hands of Visar Ymer and another group of politicians. Who, with the funding of the Devolli and Hashim Thaçi, attempted to replace the leadership of Vetëvendosje with an anti-Kurti group. It was a coup in the true sense of the word, supported by Thaçi.
The coup, which failed as a result of the resistance of Vetëvendosje activists who re-elected Albin Kurti.
The coup plotters operated in several directions. Shpend Ahmeti, the mayor of Pristina and negotiator of the rebellion, gradually withdrew from politics along with others such as Fisnik Ismaili, Dukagjin Gorani, Visar Ymeri Dardan Mulliqaj, and formed the Social Democratic Party of Kosovo.
Meanwhile, others like Besa Shahini, Hajrullah Çeku and Gent Çakaj found refuge in Edi Rama's government.
Gent Cakaj as Foreign Minister, Besa Shahini as Deputy Minister and then Minister of Education, while Hajrullah Çeku was appointed Deputy Minister of Culture.
Çeku did not stay long and rejoined Vetëvendosje, with which he was elected MP and currently the acting Minister of Culture of Kosovo.
Besa Shahini left 4 years ago, while her husband Dardan Mulliqi is a fierce opponent of Vetëvendosje and a senior exponent of the Social Democratic Party in Kosovo.
A party which, in Albin Kurti's opposition, has attempted to copy the activist and "guerrilla" techniques of Vetëvendosje when it was in opposition, but without any visible success.
Besa Shahini's surprise candidacy for mayor of Pristina is a move that has so far been made quietly, without much fanfare, but with a lot of echoes behind the scenes.
It is surprising that the man who has supported him the most in Tirana, Baton Haxhiu, has not written a single line on his portal. Devoll Television has only made a dry news story. The only one of Albin Kurti's opponents who has said something positive about Shahini is Berat Buzhala.
Who writes on his page: "I am not sure if Besa Shahini is the PSD candidate for Pristina, or in what capacity she will run, but similarly, like Natyra Kuci for Deçan, I am sure that Besa for Pristina are super candidates, who will have the best and most professional race."
All this comes after a chaos reigning in the Kosovo opposition, following the February 9 elections.
Albin Kurti is holding separate meetings with opposition members to create a governing coalition in Kosovo, as Vetëvendosje alone cannot do the numbers.
It seems that such a coalition is expected to be formed on the eve of Kosovo's local elections to be held in the fall. LDK leader Lumir Abdixhiku was the first to reject the request for a coalition, while he has attacked opposition segments against the current mayor of Pristina, Përparim Rama. He won 4 years ago with the support of PDK and AAK in the second round of the elections.
Shahini, if she emerges as a candidate without political support, will not be able to qualify for the second round, while it seems that she has a deeper background.
The game, which Edi Rama has entered as a loser, is likely to be an attempt to unite Vetëvendosje with PDK, in a broad coalition, which will then be able to achieve the opportunity for reforms and strong decisions.
Is Shahini a 'chess piece', an attempt by Edi Rama to enter the fray for Albin Kurti's marriage with PDK, by putting the former minister as a joint candidate for Pristina?
Or is it another provocation? It's too early to say, but so far there has been a fairly critical movement against Përparim Rama by PDK supporters in the Prishtina media, which is a signal that there is a change of course that will undoubtedly become clearer in the future. The fact is that PDK's involvement in the government may also have been seen as an opportunity to help the Hague prisoners by Edi Rama, as a comprehensive development.
The last time he appeared on Pressing in T7, Baton Haxhiu was no longer harsh with Albin Kurti. And this is a sign…/ Pamphlet
