Not a day at work, but the TEC ships in Triport will be insured for 1.8 million

The energy crisis that started at the end of summer 2021 reached its peak in 2022, exposing Albania to crazy import prices.

The two power plant ships contracted by the Albanian government during the energy crisis in 2022 and not put into operation for a single day, except for testing, will be insured for a value of 1.77 million euros.

The Albanian Electric Corporation (KESH) announced a procurement procedure that essentially has this contract object with a limit fund value of 177 million ALL.

In the documents accompanying the procedure, it is underlined that the two assets in question are currently located at the Triport in Vlora.

"The two thermal power ships, Tiger I and Tiger III, are anchored in the northeastern corner of the Triport's inner basin. The anchorage was protected from waves and currents. As such, the most important environmental force acting on the power plant vessel will be wind.

Motions caused by wave or ship-ship interaction are not expected to be significant at the mooring site. The mooring system is built to ensure that the power plant ship will stay in place during the year's wind event ," the document says.

The same clarifies what is fixed infrastructure.

The fixed infrastructure will consist of: Mooring system for power plant boats including a quay wall; A cooling water system including the pump and associated low voltage installations; The 132 kV high voltage electrical connection with the existing substation of the Vlora Thermal Power Plant ("TEC"); Modification (including the supply of a 132 kV to 220 kV auto-transformer) to the existing Vlora CHP substation to accommodate interconnection; The system of receiving and sending fuel and lubricating oil (on the power plant ship) including the fuel pumping station; Fire extinguishing system.

Thermal generators

The energy crisis that started at the end of summer 2021 reached its peak in 2022, exposing Albania to crazy import prices.

KESH decided to rent thermal energy generators and in the finals, after the development of competitive procedures, two floating thermal generators were secured. The ships are located in Triport of Vlora. The latter would produce energy through oil as needed. The capacity of the two units is 110 MW.

In a scenario for the energy situation during 2023, official data showed that the production of energy from these units would cost 165 million euros. The generators were expected to produce 884 GWh at a production cost of 185 euros/MWh something that never materialized.

The value of the thermal generators is estimated at 15 million euros, while the rent for a period of 2 years was calculated at 46 million dollars./ Monitor
