The extreme polarization of society and economy is also being noticed in Albania. Some citizens are getting richer, while the rest are getting poorer, deepening the gap between them.
The data show that deposits in the banking system have increased, surpassing the value of 7.5 billion euros at the end of June. Compared to the same period a year ago, the savings of Albanians in banks have increased by 44 million euros.
But what about the rest of the population?
It turns out that more than 576 thousand citizens are on the poverty line, in other words, they have insufficient income to live. Compared to 2021, the number has decreased by about 46 thousand or by 7.4%, but still remains significant.
But what is the weight of poverty to understand how disturbing this phenomenon really is?
Considering that according to the 2023 Census, the population is 2.4 million inhabitants and the number of citizens living on the poverty line, it results that 24% of the population in the country is poor./ A2CNN
