The European currency has lost nearly 7 points since the beginning of the year, and expectations for a recovery, a month before the end of the year holidays, have faded in the market. The value of the euro has currently reached 97.9 ALL.
Other currencies have also lost points against our currency, where the British pound is exchanged for 117.8 Lek and the Swiss franc for 105.3 Lek. Meanwhile, the dollar has strengthened this month following the US presidential election, gaining more than 3.5 points since November 5.
Exchange rate fluctuations have been expected by market agents, who also expect the market to maintain this trend for the month of December.
The money that will be brought by Albanian immigrants and tourists during the holidays, as well as commercial exchanges, can affect the performance that was shown in the month of November.
During this month, the Central Bank has intervened in the market by buying euros from commercial banks, but the effect to maintain the stable exchange rate has not been reflected in the exchange rate.
During this period, representatives of the IMF and the World Bank have been in Albania to meet the Governor and the Minister of Finance for the control of the exchange rate cycle, while the business associations have requested that transactions within the country be made only in Lek.
