The strengthening of the euro may bring a new wave of price increases in our country. The increase of the European currency by 5 points more compared to a week ago is being welcomed by exporters, but on the other hand, according to experts, it may translate into higher prices for imported products.
"For exports, it is a positive signal, on the other hand, Albanian importers have been privileged, but in many cases they did not reflect the weakening of the euro in the reduction of the price of some products, they will also start to worry.
The benefits from the control and reduction of inflation were large, a part related to the weakening of the euro, but also a part to the monetary policy of increasing the base interest rate for the lek by the Bank of Albania. If the euro continues to strengthen, there will be elements that will affect inflation because the inflation imported from the eurozone countries, with which we have 70% of trade relations, will also increase," said Adrian Civici, an economic expert.
According to Civic, the first reflections can also be expected in the real estate sector.
"Concern if it can be produced, it has to do with real estate, payments or large purchases, the strengthening of the euro means that prices become higher compared to a few months ago".
But how much can the euro fluctuate in the foreign exchange market in the coming months?
"The factors that have influenced this strengthening are psychological, as well as as a result of interventions in the monetary market and the end of the tourist season. Euro will have a new equilibrium, but not quickly return to 120. The new equilibrium is expected to be 105-110".
Experts attribute the rapid strengthening of the euro to the interventions of the Bank of Albania in the domestic market. While the end of the tourist season can create a more stable situation./A2
