Artificial intelligence, sustainability and cybersecurity are increasingly in demand, according to LinkedIn's latest report on job market prospects for 2024, reports Euronews.

The labor market is undergoing an accelerated transformation in Europe and competition for jobs has doubled in the last year. New positions are emerging that haven't existed in the past 20 years, LinkedIn research has shown.

When it comes to the year ahead, the fastest-growing positions are related to sustainability, artificial intelligence and business development, this specialist employment platform predicts.


LinkedIn conducted the research by examining millions of jobs posted by its members between January 1, 2019 and July 31, 2023, to calculate growth rates for each position.

It indicated that two-thirds (67 percent) of professionals in Europe are considering a job change this year, even though there is increasing competition in the market.

In 2022, there was only one open position for about every two people actively applying in the UK and France on LinkedIn, and now there is an average open position for every four applicants.

Thirty-seven percent of European professionals state that they strive for higher income to cope with the crisis of rising costs, while 19 percent state that they are more confident and want to find new roles to advance their careers .

What jobs are in demand?

The fastest growing jobs in Europe vary by country, but the general trend shows that artificial intelligence (AI), sustainability and cyber security are growing fields as companies struggle to keep pace with these trends affecting the economy.

Some of the positions in demand are: Sustainability Manager, Artificial Intelligence Engineer and Cyber ​​Security Analyst.

"As we move into 2024, it is clear that artificial intelligence and sustainability are the two main factors reshaping the job market and that employers are increasingly looking to find workers with the necessary skills," said LinkedIn's director for Europe and Latin America. in Josh Graff and added: "Jobs in these areas include some of the fastest growing positions in Europe."

When it comes to jobs in the UK, the five most in-demand positions are: sustainability manager, sales development representative, insurance analyst (a person who assesses individuals and businesses to determine the level of risk), chief revenue officer and therapist dental.

How to match skills to positions in a changing world of work?

The report also shows that many professionals have difficulty finding a formula to match their skills to open positions, given that changes are happening so quickly.

Furthermore, 55 percent of hiring managers across Europe believe that their companies lack skilled candidates because they lack traditional qualifications.

"Many of these jobs didn't even exist 20 years ago, and as the market continues to change rapidly, adaptability must be a priority for business leaders," Graf said.
