The idea of the slogan "Great Albania" (apart from copying the Trump spirit) still seems unclear, when in the protests of a few weeks ago it was talked about and claimed that we must also save Albania from disaster!
The Democratic Party has been running an American-style campaign in recent hours, with the sounds of that music, with its spirit, and also helped by a well-known representative of American lobbies. Consultant Chris LaCivita has been sparing with words (they have counted the seconds), while it seems that he will need to learn more about the Balkans. The Byzantine spirit, which lives in us and beyond, seems not to have infected him, but confused him. Moreover, the excitement of the DP people has been increased more by his physical being than by the words of leader Berisha. The idea of the slogan "Albania Majestic" (excluding copying the Trump spirit) still seems unclear, when in the protests of a few weeks ago it was talked about and claimed that we should also save Albania from catastrophe! This is a Pindaric passage, if their inspiration is to be taken as an idea, since such an act requires decades and not a mandate. It is a modern variant of the socialist "Renaissance", which was lost along the way from the great memory that the true Albanian national Renaissance conveyed. It was a time when there was talk of a nation becoming a state, when this did not even occur to the Albanians themselves.
In the style of Rama, promising for 2030, while the next mandate (for the socialists and in the polls, victory is not in doubt) ends in 2029, shows a lot. Power is important, not promises. LaCivita's statement that the DP's program is Trumpist has greatly warmed up the people of the blue electorate. The fact that Berisha is non-grata by the American administration, an element with which Berisha himself is being surrounded, has been overlooked, even though people close to him have gone so far as to paradoxically say that the non-grata has been removed!
But it is not just an Albanian phenomenon. The autocratic Hungarian Prime Minister Orban would recently say that "Tornado Trump changed the world in a few weeks", while the leaders of the European Right parties in Madrid, immediately after Trump came to power, would say that they would do MEGA (parallelism with MAGA-"Make America great again"). We are not remembering the opposite effect that Trump's policy has had in Denmark, Canada and Mexico, but after the insult that was given to President Zelensky, even Le Pen in France and Geert Wilders from the Dutch hard right, came out in support of Ukraine. Trump's populist wave has not risen as expected, and moreover, the lack of sufficient arguments on the part of his people to justify the decrees of the American president is being clearly felt. The impact of tariff policies has reached Albania, even though we have been spared even 10% of them, but even with the volume of exchange that we share with the USA.
But those surrounding the DP are more interested in victory than in how to get there. The great misfortune of the socialist government is that today's populist Right-wing movements rely on the noise and narrative that is mainly made in cultural wars and immigration, but not in foreign policy. The latter is closer to Rama's narrative. The Right does not understand that Albania is negligible in Trump's policies (we are still without an ambassador) and secondly, foreign policy this time is closer to the socialists, since on Monday, April 14, 2025, they opened Group Chapter II. Usually, the Right tries hard on national identity and in the DP you find this spirit to some extent, but with a lack of rationality that is worrying. The breakdown of the program makes you understand that the promise of poverty is more of a Leftist policy. Albanians who have fled cannot be brought back, while those who are preparing to flee cannot be stopped for any purpose or hope. Promises should be placed where they can be crossed, but not in the stratosphere.
The Democratic Party has the merit of coming into power immediately after the Labor Party's rule, but over time it showed that it had not strayed from its heritage. Avoiding opponents over the years and labeling many enemies, until the clash of January 8, 2025, are indelible in the memory of ordinary democrats. Just as many of the country's successes are associated with the DP, especially the adaptation of legislation to respect economic freedom, the qualification of the protection of private property and free competition in the economy and trade, so too are the great works that were done with the infrastructure for the change of the country, where the Road of the Nation culminates, which united us with Kosovo. Even many harsh reforms of the capitalist system, after 1992, when it came to power, despite the adaptation, were meritorious. On three occasions, Berisha was the protagonist of the changes. In 1992, when he was already completely leading the DP, a time filled with difficulties; the return of 2005, when after the events that followed '97, his arrival was not even thought of and the last one that happened two years ago when he launched the "Foltorja" movement, taking the party from his younger brother, Lulzim Basha. Today, in 2025, he aims for a third return to power at an extremely critical moment for the continuity of the DP, since in the game of history it is its very existence as the DP, which represents the support of the Right.
In this circle, LaCivita will have to put his expertise, whose position is still unclear. Given that strategists are silent, his role is thought to be very complicated by the American situation. Referring to "HuffPost", LaCivita's team to help Berisha has expanded, including the well-known pollster Tony Fabrizio and Manafort's old associate, Phil Griffin. The great fortune of the DP is that the new American authorities have softened their policies towards lobbyists. We are talking about the FARA system, where the American colleagues of "HuffPost" until April 11 "showed that none of those involved in Berisha's campaign had registered to lobby on his behalf."
Rama's calm and great consumption, after the major problems of his subordinates with corruption and an entire team in prison, shows that LaCivita and America are still not afraid of the pink-blue of the Left. Meanwhile, for the Right, this campaign is almost vital for their interests and what they represent. At today's crossroads where the Democrats are left, it seems that they will sincerely need the American compass, but also what is their main support: the public's fatigue with the socialist narrative. Berisha's security and trust, but also a series of events with the arrival of LaCivita reminds you to some extent of Roosevelt's expression: "In politics nothing happens by chance. If it does, you can bet it was planned that way". But is the DP calm with the bet before the great historical crossroads? So far, the public is still watching the turmoil, while their case is simply called: hope for power!
