One of Israel's leading businessmen, Amnon Shashua, has called for the immediate departure of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his government.

In a high-profile public rebuke from Israel's private sector, Shashua, head of self-driving vehicle technologies firm Mobileye, said Netanyahu's government was guilty of "failures, dissonance and incompetence."

He wrote in an opinion piece in the financial daily Calcalist:

We need to cut our losses and do it fast. The only solution to the current situation in Israel is to replace the government, and this must happen immediately.

Netanyahu caused an uproar on Sunday by attacking his intelligence chiefs, saying they never warned him that Hamas was planning his attack, but later retracted his comments and apologized.

Netanyahu's office, contacted by Reuters, declined to comment on Shashua's editorial.

The government, Shashua said, which seemed more concerned about its own political survival than the "good of the country," could be replaced without calling new elections, minimizing political turmoil, by forming a new coalition within the current parliament.

Meanwhile Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Platform X deleted his initial social media post in which he accused intelligence and military leaders of failing to warn him of Hamas' plans.

"I fully support all the heads of the security services", as well as "the chief of staff, commanders and soldiers of the army who are at the front and fight for our country", he emphasized.
