Salianji's case is a cause that PD is using to attack justice and accuse it of being captured by the power, which it has the main cause.
The arrest of deputy Ervin Salianji has created a new cause for the Democratic Party to once again call its people to protest. It is a case that, for the sake of truth, has created a kind of empathy in the public opinion, not only of DP militants, but also beyond them. For the reason that it was an arrest made in the context of the political battle and the court's decision with a year in prison, but much discussed.
Starting from this case, the Democratic Party once again returned to its battle with justice, which it has been doing since the time when its leader had a conflict with SPAK. Although the case of Salianj and Berisha are two totally different cases. One convicted of a public denunciation on behalf of the Democratic Party and the political battle, and the other accused of corruption. However, Salianji's case is a cause that PD is using to attack justice and accuse him of being captured by the power, which is the main cause.
There is nothing wrong with the Democratic Party protesting. On the contrary, if it demonstrates strength, it is something that will only do good for democracy in Albania. The stronger the opposition, the better the democracy. Even more so when in recent years the opposition has appeared weak in the eyes of public opinion for many reasons.
The problem is that the Democratic Party is in a battle on three fronts. In battle with justice, in battle with the government and in battle with internationals.
More justice because its leader has a conflict of interest as he is accused by SPAK of corruption. And since that day, it seems like her main focus is the fight against SPAK and new justice in general. In fact, the only program he has unveiled so far for the 2025 parliamentary elections is the dismantling of the Justice Reform. It's just that in order to achieve this goal, the agreement of the majority and Edi Rama will be needed, since this can be achieved with a position-opposition cooperation. If they have this goal, then let them join the anti-corruption commission headed by Fatmir Xhafaj and there discuss the new justice they want to do. In all probability even Rama would be satisfied if some things of justice were changed. In this direction they can find points where they meet.
The Democratic Party is also at war with the government for the upcoming elections. With a government that has many political and financial instruments in the approaching race. It has even started the campaign engines already. In this sense, PD is still behind because it is dealing with other issues. The Democratic Party also enters the race without a prime ministerial candidate. Something that has never happened not only in Albania, but also abroad. It is hard to think of a political force winning elections without a prime ministerial candidate.
And recently the Democratic Party is also in battle with the internationals. The statements of the last few days show once again the international crisis of the Democratic Party. It is a party which is totally isolated because of its leadership. This is a well-known fact, but no one mentions it and justifies its isolation with the purchase that Rama made of the embassies here, while Albania's allies have clearly stated that the leader of the opposition is undesirable for them. And you cannot win the battle with a regime without Albania's international allies. Until today, at the headquarters of the Democratic Party, since Sali Berisha was declared non-grata, no ambassador of Albania's friendly countries has stepped in. And in this isolation that it is in, that is turning into a conflict with the internationals, the Democratic Party has many open war fronts. In this sense, her struggle seems exhausting and far from the objectives. Fighting against the government, justice and internationals at the same time seems like an impossible thing. If they succeed, then it would be more unique than rare.
