Confronting Sali Berisha with Sali Berisha at different times is the easiest job in the Albanian press, since his only identity in politics is that he never has two identical positions on the same thing. Each of his positions depends on the trouble he has at the moment.
There is some surprise from the Democrats themselves about Sali Berisha's insistence on constantly attacking Ilir Rusmalin, even when he is not part of the political debate.
Today he repeated the attacks, stating that he reduced the votes of the DP in Tirana and that he had dismissed him for corruption in 2007.
A day after Ilir Rusmal's resignation on November 16, 2007, at a press conference, Sali Berisha declared to journalists:
"I accepted Mr. Rusmali's resignation because I cannot reject the new standard that my colleague set for Albanian politics and officials. The highest and most civilized standard of responsibility for an official that contrasts, as much as day contrasts with night, darkness with light, with the previous positions of officials."

At the moment when Ilir Rusmali resigned, he was in trouble and was the person most interested in sending him off with the best words, in the hope that he would not have to explain publicly the reasons why he was leaving power.
His personal clash with Sali Berisha's son, who pressured him to approve the VKM so that the Gerdec project would be approved directly by the government and his and Rrahman's company would be authorized to dismantle the cartridges, was a battle that lasted several months.
He rejected it outside the office and at the government meeting, forcing Sali Berisha, as the protocol of the government meeting itself testifies, to take the project to the Ministry of Defense.
If Rusmali had paved the way, today that fax signed by Aldo Bumçi would be signed by Rusmali, and instead of Fatmir Mediu, Sali Berisha would be on trial. At this point, he saved himself, but he also did us an honor, because he also saved Sali Berisha from his son.
Further, Rusmali became a nuisance as Minister of Justice for criminal groups linked to Berisha, those of Durrës and Fier, where after an inspection of the prisons it turned out that they were being left with false medical reports and direct intervention by Sali Berisha's bodyguard, who was the real Minister of Interior of the DP. It was he who arranged the famous recording with the former director of prisons to blackmail the minister.
All of this stressed Sali Berisha and he wanted to get rid of a minister who had witnessed both his son's thefts and his criminal connections with gangs in Albania.
And that's why he praised him so much when he resigned, calling the standard of his resignation a very high standard.
It was clearly a hypocrisy that could be read from afar. And I only needed a small test to prove it.
The next day, in a television interview on Alsat and then in an editorial in the newspaper Tema, ironically citing the “high standard of Rusmali”, I said that it is a dangerous standard, as it could blow up the entire Albanian political class. And I took Prime Minister Berisha as an example: What would he do if it turned out that his son was involved as a realtor in tenders and had records for that, or was working for the dismantling of cartridges in Vora?
That's how the battle should have started. He urgently gathered the parliamentary group and denounced me as "Gramoz Ruç's captain" and made it clear to everyone that I was an enemy of the DP and not some journalist allied with them.
In fact, the only thing that relieved me was that he could not keep the Rusmali standard first from the first cause and lost his calm, personality, awareness and ultimately even power, precisely from that story. It has traumatized him so much, that it is the only day that comes back to him like a nightmare in his conscience and he talks like a madman, whenever he remembers Ilir Rusmali. and especially his resignation. What he cannot do until he dies!
