Berisha and Rama are the main causes of the situation the country is in. Berisha, although formally removed from power, keeps the old system of corruption and clientelism alive, becoming in a way a guarantor of Rama's continuity...
To understand the problems of Sali Berisha and Edi Rama, it is enough to look at their approach to SPAK. Both, with their statements, show the true approach to justice.
Berisha has promised to dissolve SPAK, describing it as an instrument used politically against him, while Rama, to justify the attacks on his inner circle, has boasted that he is the one who gave the 'sword' to Dumani, and a short while ago he even publicly stated that the Americans had withdrawn and no longer had any interest in the Special Prosecution Office.
However, the latest statement by the US embassy, expressing clear support for SPAK and the fight against corruption, as a national interest of the US, has left both of them speechless. Neither Berisha nor Rama have reacted, choosing to remain silent instead of confronting the deceptions they themselves had nurtured. This silence clearly shows that for them, the vote they are asking Albanians for is not for the development of the country, but for their political and legal survival. They do not want to build an Albania with strong and independent institutions, but a country where justice can be controlled or eliminated according to their interests.
But what is their problem is not the problem of Albanians. Albanians want a true, independent and untainted justice, because only then can there be economic development and a responsible politics. They are tired of corruption, of the capture of the state and of the recycling of the same figures who, in the end, only help each other to remain in power.
Berisha and Rama are the main causes of the situation the country is in. Berisha, although formally removed from power, keeps the old system of corruption and clientelism alive, becoming in a way a guarantor of Rama's continuity. On the other hand, Rama, with his all-encompassing control over institutions and the public narrative, continues to deny reality, claiming that the corruption of his government is not real. But the truth is that corruption has infected the entire system. The fish stinks from the head, while Rama alone says that only the tail stinks.
Therefore, if there is any hope for the future, it lies in strengthening independent justice and holding accountable all those who have abused power. Albanians no longer want empty promises and populist rhetoric, but concrete actions that show that no one is above the law.
