As a political logic, popular opposition to Rama, the government, the majority, is a normal logic. It is even considered healthy for a democratic state.
In the final results so far in the CEC, the Democratic Party has received close to 33% of the popular vote; which, there are many commentators who, taking it in numerical terms – more than 500 thousand – call half of the electorate. This, if you count the votes abroad, since within the country the DP has received even less – 482 thousand votes nationally.
Seen in all the surveys that have been conducted since 2021 for Sali Berisha, by many companies, even those known for surgical precision, the approval score started from 27% to 33-35%, compared to other leaders. Even in a survey published by ABC News in collaboration with Angi Ricerche, Sali Berisha, in terms of approval, was below Adriatik Lapaj and Agron Shehaj; who are really not just opposition to Edi Rama and the Socialist Party, but politically toxic to the left.
What does it mean that regular voters against the Socialist Party, who are neither gray nor left-wing, preferred the new leaders more than Sali Berisha.
This level is also the political result of the May 11 elections; which on the one hand Berisha is considering positive, because there is an increase compared to the 2023 local elections, and on the other hand he does not recognize defeat.
Municipal elections have a completely different characteristic from parliamentary elections. Although local elections have a political signal or message, those votes are closer to the respective territory where they take place.
If in Shkodra Benet Beci won with a plebiscite result in the local elections of May 14, 2023, the electoral result of the parliamentary elections of May 11 was that the DP came in first place, with a difference of almost 1 thousand votes.
A result that, firstly, for Berisha's party, is a serious negative record in a territory where it won by a margin of 5 to 8 thousand votes; secondly, there is the PSD factor that received 6,700 votes, at least 2/3 of which are left-wing.
If we leave Shkodra and take another bastion of the DP – Kamza. The DP is in the lead with almost 1,300 votes, where 1,700 were received by the PSD of Doshi, but also by local factors like Shemsi Premçi – votes that for the municipality went to Rakip Suli.
Essentially, the political vote differs greatly from the local vote and expresses the political stance towards the main leaders, but also towards others who are in the race. Edi Rama, namely the Socialist Party, has received 53%, while the polls gave it between 48-52%. So, in line with a long-term perception several years after 2021.
The elections are over, the current government has taken its fourth mandate; the opposition in this case, although there may be growth or positive breakthroughs, this is irrelevant in political elections - where the rule is: whoever wins governs and keeps the team; whoever loses, rebuilds the entire team from scratch, starting with the coach.
As a political logic, popular opposition to Rama, the government, the majority, is a normal logic. It is even considered healthy for a democratic state.
But in elections, leaders compete. Today, Sali Berisha has resumed the old scenario of contesting and justifying defeat, but the basic data is that he is liked by a maximum of 33% of Albanians. And this with 530 thousand votes. To get to 51%, over 750 thousand are needed – it's that simple.
Of course, it's simple and everyone understands this, but here for years, the Berisha political-financial-media factor or establishment has violently - even medievally - prevented the creation or shaping of a bud of leadership.
With the excuse that he is a Trump in energy and enthusiasm, but that he could not even last a week in the campaign physically. This is more of a personal and family problem; but the popular dislike of Berisha is not for his dementia problems, but for his sins when he governed this country. Biden, by the way, whom Berisha dishonestly attacks – as well as the Clintons, who at least from Albanians deserve only gratitude – had no problems with liking him in relation to his governments, but simply because he was physically impossible.
Today, every democrat engaged in the party, that is, a member of the DP, is aware that with Sali Berisha and his clan they will not win; and this is said in every environment, shown - albeit timidly - in rigged primary processes or preferential votes for special deputies like Ilir Alimehmeti or Jorida Tabaku.
However, forging a political leader is not just a long process, but requires a great consensus within the political family, namely the DP. Sali Berisha refuses to leave? Here is the opportunity for the Democrats to make a democratic revolution! Then start with the government of Edi Rama!
