A serious news today is the arrest of Dritan Goxhaj. He is the son of Dilaver Goxhajt, a former colonel who volunteered for the KLA, in the fight for the liberation of Kosovo. One of the most beloved and most liked guests of the Shqip show on Dritare TV, and this is clear from the thousands of views and comments about Mr. Goxhaj. Both father and son went to Kosovo to help the Kosovo Liberation Army.
But what is happening today is the fact that this war and its leaders who are before the Special Court, which they themselves voted for in the Parliament of Kosovo, awaiting punishment, there are other people who are going before the court. A citizen of the Republic of Albania is going today. This happens because Albania recognizes the jurisdiction of the Special Court in The Hague.
I had a communication with Mr. Goxhaj, Dritan's father, who still does not know what happened. The charge is not yet known. One of the accusations that has circulated in the media is that Dritan Goxhaj has released the names of witnesses for the Court. Right after I heard the news, I checked his interviews and he doesn't talk names.
Dritan is a modest boy, he didn't like to brag. The only reason that forced Dritan to speak was the appearance of KLA before the trial.
In front of the court today is not Hashim Thaci or other people who may have done damage to Kosovo during the government. But there are people who, by being in front of the court, do more damage to the KLA, Kosovo, the state.
Albania has supported Kosovo through the Albanians. And Dritan is not the last. He may be the first arrested in Albania for the KLA war. There are quite a few Albanians who have cooperated with the KLA and I feel responsible for having spoken for them.
I have spoken about them in these shows, believing that it is unfair that these people who went voluntarily, helped the KLA, gave their lives in the war, have not been honored by the Albanian state. The Albanian state has not recognized that war. And that's a shame. But today I feel guilty for revealing their names, as they are in danger today. Those people can be taken every day by the Special Prosecutor's Office. And the Albanian state does not protect them.
And all these people who fought for idealism, have risked, have not benefited anything, may now end up in the prisons of the Special Court of Kosovo. So we need to talk. Today, before it's too late. The Albanian state cannot have two standards for the protection of its Constitution. And it is in the Constitution to protect Kosovo. And it is our honor to speak today.
Because such moments shame us. But I, as a journalist, testify that Dritan Goxhaj, on Dritare TV, did not speak names, on the contrary, he always said that we should be careful. It is in the honor of those who love Kosovo, who love Albania, to talk about Dritan Goxhaj today.
