Florian Binaj is the most unusual candidate of all the electoral races in Albania, as he is a candidate selected by Sali Berisha to be an “independent.” This makes him a candidate nominated as “independent” by any opposition party, but dependent on the Chairman of the Democratic Party.
This special status suits Mr. Binaj only as an actor, but not as a politician.
As an actor, one takes a role and plays it to the end. Flori is a good actor and I believe that he has given shape to all the characters he has played. In this regard, I believe that even this appointment by Berisha as an "independent" has a chance to play well.
But be careful: this only applies to the screen. It does not apply to the campaign or to the Democratic Party's base.
For this reason, it would be good for him to avoid interviews and press statements, because it is not the same to make people laugh as an actor and to make people laugh as a candidate.
When you are an actor and you make people laugh, you are called successful. When you are a candidate and you make people laugh with your statements, you are a failure without even starting. And I see that he caused a lot of laughter with his statements last night on Top Channel.
His misunderstanding that he is a candidate who will hold meetings without the support of opposition politicians needs to be explained: whether this is decorum or the essence of the campaign.
If it is the core of the campaign, it means that he is distancing himself from the Democratic Party and other opposition parties. This is an insult to their electorate and risks making him a campaign bogeyman who no one follows.
If he is within the role assigned to him as an "electoral actor", meaning everyone has agreed that he will only campaign, but the DP and other parties will stand behind him collecting votes for him, this is a deception for the public, but it is still much better than it being true that he has nothing to do with the leaders of the opposition parties.
We all know that the DP ultimately does not want a bill for the loss and therefore has appointed an "independent" to justify the loss. But this does not mean that the DP wants this one to lose as deeply as possible. It definitely needs this one to get votes, perhaps more than the DP. Therefore, it must be careful not to scare the Democrats before the campaign has even started by treating them like lepers who will not approach them. That they are not as stupid as they think and are not as "loved" as they were when they watched Orange and applauded.
Finally, he must be careful when he speaks, because to this day he considers lies to be jokes on stage, but in politics, lies are morally reprehensible and in a campaign they are time bombs.
The ease with which he lied several times in the first interview about completely unimportant things is a bad sign. The point is, the photos and videos with Erion Veliaj do not really matter whether they were made in 2015, 2018 or 2020. What is important is that he was part of the roles that Veliaj assigned to him for his PR. The rush to lie that he was not aware of, or that they were made when he was a minister, shows that he is embarrassed by his previous life and is trying to cover it up with lies.
What he did is not a crime. Politicians have done much worse things. But they are overcome when you are honest. As a liar, he has many strong competitors in politics and he cannot defeat them. The arch-liar has a party owner, who is ready to lie even about what he said yesterday, not in 2018.
Therefore, if he is unsure about the things he says, it is best for him to avoid television appearances as much as possible until he learns the role as an "independent candidate" that they have assigned to him.
Otherwise, with this momentum that he has started to create to make the electorate laugh, I fear that if the elections are postponed due to the Constitutional Court's decision, they will dismiss him from the role they have given him, and he will be followed up with laughter by this story.
After this, I don't know if he will be able to make people laugh anymore with his role as a police officer, as this campaign could prove that he is a real police officer and not just a role player.
