Complacency or something else is harming SPAK

The complacency that is evident among SPAK prosecutors is seriously damaging its mission.

Albania remains perhaps the only country in the world where over 95 percent of security measures requested by prosecutors and courts are “arrest with imprisonment”. Prisons today are overcrowded with detainees, to the point that, in addition to the poor conditions, the lives of those who have not committed life crimes are also at risk. We have all said and boasted about the work of SPAK, we have been proud and continue to be proud, because the “untouchables” with collars have been investigated, arrested, and tried. No one feels sorry when they see “X” or “Y” official or senior leader, current or former, arrested and accused of theft, abuse, and illegal wealth.

"Approach to SPAK so far. In Albania, it is known what happens when you have, or take power. Complacency begins to awaken, you become delirious, you say that "no one can stop me now". And you start abusing your duty, the law, your position, your subordinates, and everything related to duty. The important thing remains, not to be afraid of pressure, and not to be corrupt. This is because the implementation of the law should be the alpha and omega of the daily routine of every head of state institutions, even more so in those of the new justice system.

I will dwell briefly on the case of the arrest of Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj. He had been under investigation for months, summoned to SPAK, given explanations, testified, was questioned by prosecutors, and left without giving any explanation, as the law says. But then one fine day, the BKH, on SPAK's orders, goes to his office and arrests him. At SPAK, there are dozens and dozens of other officials and former senior state leaders who are summoned, who postpone the dates of their interrogation with "medical" reports or other pretexts, there are dozens who also appear in the media and insult the prosecutors and Altin Dumani with a book of house rules. Of course, wanting to intimidate the people of justice. But nothing comes of them. They even go between Tirana and New York, and post photos, videos, to the point of being ridiculous. But SPAK, it doesn't feel like it, doesn't send the BKH to arrest them, even though there are as many facts as you want. Then why two standards?

I repeat, I am not against arresting thieves and corrupt people with collars, but not with separation, and with double standards in the implementation of the law. There is nothing worse than when the head of an institution reaches complacency. Why was it necessary to arrest Erion Veliaj exactly 3 months before the May 11 elections? Who did it serve? Justice? Not at all. SPAK could very well have placed him under guard (if he was afraid of leaving Albania) and everything would have been safe. But I think that Erion Veliaj is not that cowardly, since he had the opportunity to leave even before the day of his arrest.

The complacency that is noticeable among SPAK prosecutors is seriously damaging its mission. Likewise, their double standards, among the large number of former officials investigated for corruption, has begun to shake citizens' trust in that institution. I am not saying that SPAK should have thought deeply about "whether or not the image of the Socialist Party is damaged by the arrest of Erion". But what is worth it is the mockery of the political scoundrels, who until yesterday ran the state, stole and killed on the boulevard, and who today fly between Tirana and the roads of the world by plane. What name do we give to this?

Then we must accept the fact that, even in SPAK, something has begun to "give way". It is no longer the same "first wave", the pace and intensity of work has decreased.
