During the morning of today (February 23), public opinion was shocked by a serious event that happened in Durrës.

Hygerta Meta, a 19-year-old student admitted that she killed and buried her father, Pëllumb Meta, in the yard.

She testified to the police that she committed this act because her father wanted to marry her to a boy in the village against her will, while the whole family is being investigated for the incident.

Sociologist Gëzim Tushi, in a Skype connection to News 24, said that the event is monstrous. He emphasized that the Albanian family has gone off the rails and is deeply immersed in criminality, while adding that the state must do more.

" The event is monstrous. Only in literature can we read such crime strategies. Regardless of the causes, the crime is gruesome. The Albanian family has gone off the rails. This institution, which should have been more solidary, has turned into a snake's nursery, where various conflicts are brewing. Albanian society has a diversity of family crime. Crime in the family has become a daily bread. We have been adopted with the culture of crime.

 Do you understand what it means that society is used to these crimes? 80 to 90 percent of crimes are committed within the family and it's shocking, it's a global trend. We have increased crimes, so much so that it has become a global trend that every time there are serious events, it is said to be 'Balkan crime'. Albanian society has been disturbed by the social seams. Crimes within the family are a great social shame. Things can be solved not with poison and weapons, but with communication.

 In the West, the problem is solved by communication or by law, while here it is solved individually and this is wrong. It is also the state's problem. Domestic violence is not reported, it is a serious social wound. The state supports the family. The causes are poverty, social frameworks, greed for wealth, etc., said Tushi.

According to Tushi, even though there was no internal democracy in the Meta family in Xhafzotaj, Durrës, where the murder took place, this was not the solution. He said that in the civilized world, problems are solved through communication or through legal means.
