Portuguese citizen Ruben Saraiva appeared again this Tuesday, March 10, at the Lezha Court, following the trial taking place against him.
During the next session, the defense presented its final conclusions on the case. The session lasted about two hours, while Saraiva spoke before the jury regarding the charges against him, requesting a declaration of innocence. He has asked the prosecution to present stronger reasons that, according to him, would implicate him in the events.
Defense attorney Kujtim Cakrani stated that, based on the video footage, it does not appear that his client is the perpetrator of the murder. According to him, Saraiva raised another claim during the hearing, denouncing discrimination in prison.
Saraiva is accused of the murder of businessman Ardian Nikulaj, an event that occurred in April 2023 in Shëngjin. Earlier, the Lezha Prosecution Office filed a complaint in this case, requesting a life sentence for the Portuguese citizen.
On the other hand, the defense insists that Saraiva is innocent and that there is not enough evidence linking him to the crime. After the defense presents its conclusions, the court is expected to retire to make its decision.
