A personal dispute appears to be the cause of the murder of the headman of Lithovouni, Makrynia, Aitoloakarnania, while the 44-year-old perpetrator, identified as Albanian, was arrested on Saturday morning.
According to information broadcast by the Alpha television station, the 44-year-old is suspected of being the person who contacted the Police by phone, claiming that he shot the victim and that he was behind the murder. The same information says that the suspected perpetrator of the crime had set up an ambush for the victim and was waiting for him to pass by in his car.
When the mayor's vehicle arrived at the scene, the 44-year-old allegedly opened fire, shooting at least three times inside the car, killing the 50-year-old. The victim was married and had one child.
Authorities' investigations are continuing, and according to information so far, the two men are suspected of having had a bad relationship for a long time, with strong personal confrontations, which appear to have led to the tragic incident.
