A 36-year-old Albanian man, sentenced to 22 years in prison for the murder of a Romanian, has been arrested by Italian police after 5 years on the run.
The Albanian was arrested as part of an operation by the Fermo carabinieri. It is suspected that the crime occurred due to a clash between the Albanian and the Romanian over drug trafficking.
The crime took place in February 2020 in the quiet area of Fermo and Porto Sant'Elpidio. On February 17, 2020, the discovery of the lifeless body of a 36-year-old Romanian man, stabbed to death, immediately alerted the police. The victim had multiple stab wounds.
The investigations, which began immediately after the murder, were particularly complex and involved the use of advanced investigative techniques. Thanks to these investigations, it was possible to capture the perpetrator, who had disappeared shortly after the crime, leaving the city.
Important international cooperation with the Albanian authorities, through the International Police Cooperation Service, has allowed the fugitive to be initially located in Albania and then, upon his return to Italy for health and family reasons, in the province of Fermo, to be arrested.
