"I'm a drug user, I don't remember anything," a 29-year-old Albanian man, who was arrested after attacking a gas station employee with a hammer in the Agioi Anargyri area of Greece, testified before Greek authorities about a year ago.
The incident occurred at 1:30 a.m. on February 20, 2024, when the 29-year-old entered the store with a hammer and viciously attacked the woman, hitting her in the back, stomach, and head.
Throughout the attack, the perpetrator shouted at the woman: "Give me the money, I'll kill you," and finally managed to snatch a bag from her containing the store's daily turnover, a total of around 680 euros.
After the attack, the 29-year-old attempted to escape, but was unable to, as he was spotted by police officers and arrested.
As for the woman, she miraculously escaped the attack. According to the forensic doctor who examined the victim, the woman had multiple bruises on her left arm, as well as scratches on her abdomen, chest, and elbow.
During his defense, the perpetrator claimed that he committed the robbery under the influence of drugs and that he does not remember how the incident occurred.
"I am a drug user, I don't remember anything. I had taken too many pills, I use cocaine, I don't remember what I did, I apologize. I have been living in Greece for 13 years. I don't know... I remember very little of the event, I don't remember it ," he is reported to have testified to the police regarding the incident.
According to Greek media, the Albanian was tried a few days ago and sentenced to 5 years and 10 months in prison.
