The hearings for the 'Partizani' file have begun at the GJKKO, where one of the defendants is former Prime Minister Sali Berisha.

The latter is being represented at the hearing by his lawyers, while his son-in-law Jamarbër Malltezi is present in the courtroom. Also in the courtroom is another defendant, Xhimi Begeja, while the others are represented by legal counsel.

The lawyers also presented requests in this session for the invalidation of SPAK's investigative acts regarding the case in question.

The trial panel did not allow the media to record the entire session, while it did allow recording of the opening plans of the session.

This was opposed by Malltezi, who had also filed a request with the GJKKO.

"I requested that the entire session be recorded, in order to have a more transparent process and to hear the positions of all parties. But the court rejected this request, deciding that only the recording of the beginning of the session can be allowed. I cannot allow this, that footage be recorded just for show. If everything was given, you would understand that the court and the prosecution have become a joke," Malltezi told reporters.

The Partizani affair case went to trial on May 19, a few days after the May 11 elections, but dragged on for 7 months in the preliminary hearing.

Berisha will be tried on charges of passive corruption of senior officials, as he is accused of having, in his capacity as prime minister, taken concrete actions in approving laws and by-laws, where his son-in-law, Jamarbër Malltezi, was also a beneficiary.

Malltezi is also accused of corruption and money laundering. According to SPAK, he has illegally benefited from a construction business worth 5.4 million euros thanks to government decisions taken by his father-in-law.

Fatmir Bektashi is accused of corruption and money laundering, Malltez's partner and land heir Xhimi Begeja, and financier Andia Pustina, who dealt with the financial and legal side of the "Homeplan" company, are accused of money laundering.

Also, three companies, "Kontakt", "Homeplan" and "Studio Pustina", have been sent to trial for money laundering.
