Shock and disbelief, along with "unexpected" grief. The family of Edoardo Sarchi, 44, the real estate entrepreneur murdered in Albania, awaits the truth from the investigation. Riccardo Barbieri, owner of a bed and breakfast in the Varese area and cousin of the owner of "Tegola Edilcentro", speaks. The victim, originally from the Varese area, left for Albania twenty years ago.
What news is coming from Albania?
"The news we are receiving comes from local newspapers. The news on television, at this time, is not giving any certainty about what happened. The funeral took place yesterday. It is a terrible loss. Edoardo was married and the father of two children. He was a beautiful, honest and gentle person."
What do you and your family think about what happened?
"Something happened with his partner's two children; we think it was a fight. But only the investigation will clarify everything. We cannot understand why Edoardo was killed; we are waiting for the motives behind this terrible murder. How could they do this to my cousin?"
Have you seen each other recently?
"The last time, unfortunately, was three years ago, on a sad occasion. His father, my uncle, had died and the four brothers were reunited. I invited them here, to Grantola, where I live. And even though it was my uncle's funeral, it was a day where we were reunited like when we were children."
Are you going to Albania?
"His wife is there, of course. I wanted to go to the funeral, but I couldn't. His sister also couldn't get to Albania in time. His cousins, with whom he started working 20 years ago, are also there. His uncle Augusto Nidoli founded the Edilcentro company thirty years ago, which is now run by his son Antonio. Now we hope that the Albanian authorities will fully clarify the situation."
