A mobile phone was seized by the security group at Drenova prison, during a search conducted in one of the institution's cells.

It is suspected that the phone may have been used by the convicted Laert Haxhiu.

Investigations into this case are continuing by the Korça Prosecutor's Office in cooperation with the Internal Affairs and Complaints Service, SHÇBA.

Authorities are investigating to verify whether the phone was used by Haxhiu or other convicted persons, as well as to discover whether there were any suspicious contacts outside the prison.

Laert Haxhiu, sentenced to life imprisonment by the GJKKO for the Lushnja massacre, was extradited from Greece to Albania on July 3, 2024.

6 years after the massacre, Laert Haxhiu was arrested in Greece, in May 2023. Haxhiu, an opponent of former Lushnja gang leader Aldo Bare, was sentenced to life in prison for the 2017 Lushnja massacre, which killed Zamir Latifi, a friend of Bare, and Jurgen Hoxha. They were shot with an automatic rifle in a bar in the center of Lushnja, while the owner of the bar and a passerby were accidentally injured. Haxhiu's associates, Anterio Kaloshi and Orgest Bilbili, were previously sentenced to life in prison for the Lushnja massacre.

Two years after the “Lushnja massacre,” two more executions occurred. One is suspected of being linked to Laert Haxhiu. Besnik Hida, the uncle of 23-year-old Zamir Latifi who sought justice for the assassination of his nephew by Haxhiu, was killed in a mafia assassination in 2019.

Laert Haxhiu finally sank after the testimony of the repentant Artan Tafani, who confessed to the involvement of both of them, but also of a large group of people, in 16 criminal events, including 4 murders in Albania and 2 others in Greece. Among the confessions was Haxhiu's planning to kill justice officials, including SPAK prosecutor Doloreza Musabelliu, and Lushnja prosecutor Merita Selimi, for whom the decision to protect them was taken with great urgency.
