Described as one of the biggest cocaine traffickers in Latin America, the arrest of Dritan Rexhepi has caused a stir in Ecuador and beyond.
Rexhepi, known as the head of the first Albanian cartel "Kompania Bello", through the falsification of a series of medical reports from a hospital, managed to gain freedom from Ecuador's prison.
The "baron" of cocaine has managed to escape imprisonment in Durrës, then in Belgium and Italy, but in Ecuador he has not done so well and has encountered the investigation of the former candidate for president, Fernando Villavicencio.
After Rexhep's release from the Ecuadorian prison, Villavicencio denounced the Albanian trafficker, judge Poma Chamba, a public defender, seven officials from the National Comprehensive Care Service (SNAI), six doctors from Hospital del Guasmo and a friend of Rexhep's.
Villavicencio had stated that with a false medical report, Judge Poma ordered that the electronic device be removed from him and ordered him to appear every 15 days at the Social Reintegration Unit of the SNAI in Guayas.
"The surprising thing is that this man never appeared, but he appeared every 15 days", said Villavicencio.
Some time after the denunciation, the former presidential candidate was executed during an electoral rally, on August 9 of this year.
