The head of the "Kompania Bello" cartel, Dritan Rexhepi, was arrested today in his luxury villa in Istanbul, where he had gone thanks to a fake Colombian passport, registered in the name of Benjamin Omar Perez Garcia.
Journalist Yalile Loaiza said that Rexhepi ran his drug cartel from prison.
"We found out about Rexhepi's arrest from the Turkish minister's post. The authorities did not know his location since January 2022. We know that Rexhepi and in prison had an important structure to send drugs from Ecuador to Europe. Ecuador is a key country for drug trafficking from Latin America to Europe and the USA. Rexhepi used false identities to escape the authorities. Ecuador together with the Albanian authorities had agreed that Rexhepi would be extradited as soon as he served his sentence here. Journalists who publish articles about these criminals are at risk. This happens because Ecuador is one of the most violent countries in Latin America. The justice system in Ecuador is passing through a critical moment as the officials are either connected or corrupted by exponents of crime", said the journalist for "Euronews Albania".
