A 48-year-old Albanian woman is accused of attempting to kill her mother-in-law by feeding her rat poison in her food. The incident took place in Savona, Italy.
According to media in Italy, a security measure has been imposed on the 48-year-old by the court, at the request of the Prosecutor's Office, on charges of attempted murder.
According to authorities, the woman was ordered to leave the apartment and was forbidden from approaching her mother-in-law, a 73-year-old disabled woman. She was also placed under surveillance with an electronic bracelet.
The investigation began after the elderly woman was hospitalized several times.
Medical tests revealed the presence of toxic substances in the blood, related to the prolonged use of rat poison.
According to investigators, the daughter-in-law, the only one who cared for the elderly woman, is suspected of giving her poison several times by mixing it with food. During the search of the apartment, the police found a package of rat poison, a substance that matches the one found in the mother-in-law's body.
Authorities are continuing investigations to verify whether there are other people involved in this case.
