A serious incident occurred in Korça this morning. It is learned that a fire broke out in neighborhood no. 13 of the city of Korça, where a 70-year-old woman died inside her apartment as a result of smoke inhalation.
It is reported that the elderly woman lived alone in the apartment. The fire was caused by a vacuum cleaner, while 70-year-old Fluturie Potka lost her life from asphyxiation. She was unable to escape, as she was paralyzed.
Meanwhile, the fire department and police are at the scene. This is not the first time that elderly people have been abandoned and forced to live alone, in conditions unsuitable for care.
"On 15.01.2026, at around 09.10, in neighborhood no. 13, Korça, a fire broke out in the apartment of citizen FP, about 73 years old, who died as a result of asphyxiation.
Police and fire services are at the scene to help extinguish the fire.
"The investigation team is working to determine the cause of the fire and to fully document the circumstances of the incident," the police announced.
