Deputy Director General of Prisons, Femi Sufaj, spoke about Altin Ndoc's escape from Durrës Hospital yesterday, describing this as a serious event.
Sufaj announced that the directorate is assessing the situation to take preventive measures in escorting prisoners to hospitals or courts, with the aim of avoiding such cases in the future.
He also explained that such escapes are very rare, with the last one being in 2010.
"On January 13, we were informed by the Directorate of Prisons that Altin Ndoci, who had gone to visit the surgeon, had escaped from the premises of the Durrës hospital. Information was immediately sent to the state police for the announcement of his arrest and his search. A team from the General Directorate of Prisons went to the Durrës institution for the execution of criminal decisions, as well as the District Prosecutor's Office and the Internal Control Service, which are conducting investigative assessments.
The Director General has suspended several employees until the investigation is complete. This is a serious incident for the prisons and for the community. The Directorate is assessing the situation to take preventive measures to accompany prisoners to hospitals or courts. I want to clarify that other incidents are very rare, this is the second case after an escape from the hospital in 2010 that was arrested after 24 hours , ”he told the show 'Frontline Interview'.
