A 56-year-old wanted man was extradited from the US to Tirana today. It is learned that 56-year-old Fatbardh Lala was a former Judicial Police officer at the Tirana General Jurisdiction Prosecutor's Office.
Lala has been sentenced to 3 years in prison by the Criminal Court for corruption. He is accused of taking a bribe of 55 thousand lek to interfere with the prosecutor's decision not to convict Ermir Llagaçi.
"Another successful extradition operation is being carried out, with US law enforcement partners. The Criminal Police Department of the State Police, in coordination with the Special Prosecution Office (SPAK) and the Federal Agency DSS/OCIU, present at the United States Embassy in Tirana, has managed to locate and arrest in the United States, an Albanian citizen, internationally wanted, with an arrest warrant from the Court Against Corruption and Organized Crime (GJKKO), to face charges and the justice system in Albania.
Albanian citizen FL, 56 years old, former Judicial Police officer at the Tirana General Jurisdiction Prosecutor's Office, was wanted in Albania for criminal offenses in the field of corruption and disclosure of state secrets.
Citizen FL was extradited at around 3:00 PM today. This operation to locate, arrest and extradite this citizen is the result of months of joint efforts between Albanian and American law enforcement agencies.
"The State Police thanks the international partners of the US federal agencies DSS and ICE-ERO, for all their work and maximum dedication in this extradition/removal operation ," the police announced.
