The officer responded to the perpetrators using his service weapon.
By order of the Prosecutor's Office, the police officer with the initials BK has been detained after the assassination attempt that occurred in the village of Rrilë, Lezha.
The police officer is accused of the criminal offense of abuse of office, as he was inside the barbershop where 21-year-old Merando Nikulaj, who was the subject of the attack, was receiving service.
According to official information, during the armed attack, the officer responded to the perpetrators using his service weapon. Investigations to fully clarify the incident are ongoing.
How did the assassination happen?
The incident occurred at around 9:00 PM yesterday evening. It is suspected that two firearms were used, while another person, Merando Nikulaj, whose uncle is Ardian Nikulaj, is also suspected of being the target of the gun attack.
Nikulaj was inside the barbershop and was getting a haircut at the time. After the incident, he left and did not show up at the hospital, while police are conducting checks at hospitals and private clinics, where it is suspected that he may have gone for treatment.
It turns out that there were 7 perpetrators. They arrived in two vehicles, one of them an Audi. Two of the perpetrators fired a volley of bullets at the barbershop, inside which there were four people.
From the actions taken, it appears that the BK officer was also present at the time of the assassination attempt, and stated that he shot to neutralize the perpetrators, but was unable to identify them.
